Summer Reminder

A friendly reminder to start putting sunscreen on your child before arriving for scheduled therapy sessions in case the session will be outside. You also can request to be inside if you feel your child would not tolerate the heat very well that day, we always encourage open communication with the therapist for the needs of your child!

We also have noticed a lot of open-toed shoes around the barn with the onset of nice weather. Please remember that horses don’t always look out for toes, we need to protect those feet! Closed toed shoes are required to be in the barn or around the horses at all times.

Additionally, we want to remind you that light pants are still preferred over shorts for summer riding due to the possibility of the saddle or stirrup leathers pinching/rubbing legs especially in the heat with sweaty/sticky skin. We recommend pants that are lightweight but will still provide a layer of protection against skin abrasions.

Scheduling

TRRC will be closed August 21 – September 3, NO hippotherapy sessions will be conducted during that time.

In an effort to meet all needs and ensure all supports are in place this summer, PLEASE let us know as soon as you know when your child will be missing therapy for scheduled trips.

Upcoming Events

Autism Research Opportunity

Duke University has a new app titled “Autism & Beyond” used to analyze a child’s face and behavior to further research specific to screening for Autism.  Download the free app if you have a child with or without autism between 1 and 6 if you are interested in contributing to this cause.

Activity of the Month

Frozen Fun!

Create a frozen block of ice filled with colored cubes of ice, plastic gems and some water creatures or other favorite toys. Place ice block on a water-proof surface, in the grass outside, or in a plastic container at a table. Supply your child with a variety of tools to dig them out. This will give you both hours of fun trying to “excavate” the items from their frozen surroundings and is a super awesome way to stay cool on a hot summer day.
